Full Name: Tamara Mitton

Home Town: The Pas, MB, Canada

Age: 26

How did I get to Turner Valley:  During my DTS, I met Jess and Andrae from Turner Valley.  After seeing their passion for the Bible I wanted to do the School of Biblical Studies.  So only 4 weeks after my DTS I hopped on a plane and came to Turner Valley.  I love SBS so much I don’t want to leave.

Countries I’ve been to: Canada, US, Mexico, England, Israel

Languages I speak: English, and bits and pieces of German, Spanish and French

Nicknames: never really had any that stuck

Funniest outreach story:  I can’t think of a funny story but I have a scary one.  We were in Fort St. John, BC and it was Canada Day.  We had spent the day in town, hanging out and enjoying all the fun activities that the town put on.  We wanted to stay for the fireworks in the evening.  By the time the fireworks started it was crazy dark out.  A huge storm was coming in.  I’ve never seen clouds so thick.  Just as we started to head back out to the camp where we were staying (45 minutes from town) it began to pour like crazy.  Along with that was continuous thunder and lightening.  The lightening was blinding.  So if you’ve ever driven home when it’s insanely dark and you continually have bright lights blinding you, you know it’s not so much fun.  It was probably one of the loudest and most intense thunderstorms I’ve ever been in.  Anyway, we made it home.  I guess the funny part is that once we got back to camp I drove the van up to a cabin to drop someone off.  When I attempted to turn the van around, I got stuck in the mud.  I made it through the knuckle whitening, adrenaline pumping drive home only to get stuck in some mud on the yard.  Oh well, at least I didn’t have far to go.

What am I encouraged by:  I am always encouraged when I hear about how God is working in other peoples lives.  It gets me excited because it is such an amazing thing that God loves us so much that he is involved in the intimate details of our lives and it reminds me that God is working in my life as well.

Things I would change about the world if I could:  Sure, I'd like to change things like social injustice, poverty, wars, climate of Canada, and the spread of Christianity in the world but I don't really see the big picture of things so I think it's best to leave changing the world up to God.  But I'm ready to be part of whatever he wants to do!

My thoughts on community:  Community is something that at times can be incredibly difficult yet it is an amazing blessing.  It's an environment that forces you to grow, it pushes you beyond yourself.  At the same time it offers a safe place - a place where a person can be encouraged, strengthened and loved. Without community we would shrivel up in loneliness and selfishness.

Pet peeves:  Pet peeves(I can never think of any)

Favorite colour:  Green

Favorite movie: Anne of Green Gables, Pride and Prejudice, Les Miserables (I guess that's more than just one)

Something that you would never believe about me:  Well, most people know me to be pretty sensible, practical, responsible not too crazy but my family will testify that I can be incredibly silly.  They've often given me funny looks!

The biblical character I most like and why: I always liked Joseph from the Old Testament, I'm not sure why.  Maybe because I see how God was sovereign in the midst of the circumstances of his life.  It's an encouragement to me that God has a plan and purpose for my life too.

What Hollywood star do I most look like: I have no idea and don't really care.

Favorite music: I love classical piano music or any kind of classical

Favorite book:  I read too much to know which book is my favorite.

Favorite pastime/ hobbies: Reading, photography, crafty things, the odd bit of writing
